Every week, the cosplay crew at COGconnected dive deep into the world wide web to uncover the very best in cosplay. This week, our cosplay journey takes us to Sandusky, OH for ColossalCon 2024. So, I’ve never actually heard of Sandusky before, but apparently they have some pretty talented cosplayers! I’ll have to add it to my travel bucket list. Until then, I’ll enjoy their incredible cosplays from afar, and share those amazing finds with all of you.

Cosplay from Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo 2024

The annual Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) wrapped up about a month ago, but we’re still reeling from some of the incredible cosplay that was showcased at the event. From Marvel superheroes like Iron Man and the Fantastic Four to cinematic icons like Mrs. Doubtfire. Attendees at C2E2 pulled out all the stops to present the very best in creative cosplaying.

Special edition gear is awesome. This kind of goes without saying. Getting your favorite characters on an article of clothing, or an item, that you can buy, own, and show off is just great. This idea becomes especially true when it comes to superheroes. Today, Marvel Studios and GUNNAR Optiks are happy to announce their new partnership bringing Guardians of the Galaxy eyewear to fans. That’s right, fans of the Guardians, in need of glasses, can get their hands on Groot Glasses. A press release delivers more vital information on these spacey specs.

GUNNAR Optiks’ Groot Glasses are blue light blocking, making them perfect for those stuck on screens. Yet, that is only one of their features. Additionally, the glasses are built with sustainably sourced walnut wood, ensuring Groot would take no offence. Furthermore, the glasses contain flexible metal hinges and laminated carbon fiber internals. Of course, this means that the glasses are strong while maintaining flexibility. The glasses also have the iconic “I am Groot” phrase etched into them.

As blue light blockers, the glasses help reduce the harmful effects of the light. For instance, wearers can expect less dry, red, or irritated eyes, blurred vision, and eye fatigue. All of this on top of looking good.

Five Nights at Freddy’s is having a bit of a resurgence with the recent release of the new Five Nights at Freddy’s movie. And with good reason too, the movie is actually pretty damn good! I am definitely hoping we’ll see a direct sequel in the near future – the FNAF series has a ton of fun lore to showcase in future entries. So, to celebrate, we figured we’d dedicate this week’s cosplay feature to the FNAF cosplay fandom. It’s been a couple weeks since the annual New York Comic Con wrapped up its 2023 event. Four days of celebrities, panels, and – of course – cosplay! There has been an incredible number of images surfacing from the event from fans showing off their incredible cosplay content. One of the best collections comes from the talented Justin Cosplay’s YouTube channel. A 20+ minute music video celebrating all the amazing cosplay from the massive event.

Cyberpunk 2077 Comic “Big City Dreams” Wins Hugo Award

A Coveted Award for Cyberpunk 2077

The Hugo Awards are an annual literary award for fantasy and sci-fi works. Of course, the award is prestigious, and winning it is a great achievement. Importantly, today marks the first time a Polish author has received a Hugo Award. That’s right Bartosz Sztybor, author and animation narrative director at CD PROJEKT RED, has won the Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story or Comic. Sztybor’s comic, Cyberpunk 2077: Big City Dreams, is an original story told in the world of the hit RPG Cyberpunk 2077. Interestingly, an article provides more details on the comic and the award.

Cyberpunk 2077: Big City Dreams tells the story of two small-time thieves, Tasha and Mirek. Of course, the comic takes place in the iconic megalopolis from the game: Night City. Obviously, the story tells of the struggle to survive in this cyberpunk future’s most dangerous city. It offers a new look at the city from perspectives far from the likes of the game’s protagonist V.

Interestingly, Sztybor has worked on other iterations of the Cyberpunk universe. For example, he has also worked on the hit anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Additionally, he is well-known for his comics in both the Cyberpunk and Witcher universes. Additionally, his Hugo Award win marks the first time a Polish author has been a recipient of the award.

Excitingly, this award comes to the franchise after the release of the game’s newest DLC: Phantom Liberty.

It’s that favourite time of our week when we share some of the best cosplay content the world has to offer. Angie Griffin has been cosplaying for many, many years now. I was originally introduced to her content on YouTube, as she would often make fun parody videos of all thing’s nerd like Star Wars.
