God of War Ragnarok Devs May Unveil Release Date at Summer Game Fest
God of War Ragnarok fans may have a reason to rejoice later this week. According to a recent leak, devs are going to reveal the release date for the game at the Summer Game Fest.
“We are overdue for a date,” the leaker hinted on social media, also sharing an emoji of an axe. Fans of the franchise are well aware that Kratos’ main weapon is the Leviathan Axe. The timing of everything, including the axe emoji, seem to point to a possible God of War Ragnarok reveal at the said event.
The upcoming event may be a third-party showcase, but that does not automatically mean that PlayStation will not be handing off a major AAA reveal then and there. In fact, just last August, Guerrilla revealed the release date for Horizon Forbidden West at the Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase.
So far, the only thing that fans know about God of War Ragnarok’s launch date is it will be some time in 2022. Sony even reiterated this information earlier this year. The gaming community is well aware that the game was originally due for launch last year. However, devs decided to delay it to this year shortly thereafter. Former Director Cory Barlog took the blame for the delay.
Barlog also appeared in a quick video this April. “Something cool is coming,” he said at the time. Unfortunately, they were not ready to show off what this project was. It has been two months since the video. Now, fans are speculating that devs have done enough preparation for an official reveal. The showcase will start on June 9th at 11am PT.
Considering that Geoff Keighley had already previously reminded fans to manage their expectations for Summer Game Fest, fans are advised to take the latest God of War Ragnarok release date leak with a grain of salt.
