Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that the PlayStation 5 has now hit over forty million in sales worldwide as of the week ending July 16th, 2023. The next-generation console originally released on November 12th, 2020, with direct competition from Microsoft’s Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo’s Switch. The console was difficult to obtain due to the pandemic at first, however it appears to be freely accessible now. With a well-stocked supply, it is no surprise that the console’s sales have soared.

Via a press release, Jim Ryan, President of Sony Interactive Entertainment, stated, “With the support of PlayStation fans, we have reached a milestone of 40 million PS5 consoles sold through to gamers since launch. Thank you so much to our community of gamers – without you this would have been an impossible task.” Thus far, the console has a great mixture of indie games and blockbuster AAA titles along with incredible titles from partners in the last two months such as Diablo IV, Street Fighter 6 and Final Fantasy XVI.

Moreover, Jim Ryan focused on the array of accessories for the console including the Dualsense Wireless Controller, a range of color schemes, adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. By fan vote, the scores of fans chose several titles as their favorites on the platform. These include God of War: Ragnarok, Elden Ring, Demon’s Souls, Returnal and Resident Evil: Village. Starbreeze Studios, video game developers, along with Deep Silver, video game publishers, are preparing to release their long-awaited sequel, PAYDAY 3 on 21st September, 2023. The game will be available on PC via Steam, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. The companies have announced that ahead of its release, players can request access to a technical closed beta test, which takes place from August 2nd to August 7th. It will be available on both Steam and Xbox Series X/S.

Firstly, players must request access to the technical closed beta test by doing the following: “Steam: Visit the PAYDAY 3 store page and press “Request Access” near the top of the page. Xbox: Go to the Xbox Insider Hub, navigate to previews, select PAYDAY 3.” Furthermore, the purpose of the test is to prioritize meeting technical goals, rather than letting people try the game. Moreover, the team will choose applications randomly and pre-ordering does not guarantee access.

However, players will be able to create content from the closed beta test, but there will be certain limitations. Via a release, the developers stated, “This is a slice of the full game containing only 1 heist and 4 heisters. Most, but not all, weaponry and cosmetics are included. There’s also a level cap of infamy level 22, meaning that not all skill points will be available during the beta.” Additionally, progression from this closed beta period will not carry over to the full release of the game.

Tencent is one of the biggest video game companies in the world, and it has obtained a stake in several major enterprises over the years. The company has now announced that it has acquired Techland, a video game developer and publisher best known for games such as Dying Light and Call of Juarez: Gunslinger. The acquisition will allow the company to strive through the partnership.

Pawel Marchewka, in a press release, stated, “Teaming up with Tencent will allow us to move full speed ahead with the execution of the vision for our games. We have chosen an ally who has already partnered with some of the world’s finest video game companies and helped them reach new heights while respecting their ways of doing things.” Furthermore, Marchewka confirmed that the company will maintain full ownership of its intellectual property rights, creative freedom and the way it operates generally.

However, Marchewka noted the following, “Can we make these dreams come true? Yes, we can. But what we realized is that the best, boldest dreams can only be achieved while working side-by-side with like-minded friends and strong partners, who share the same vision, passion, and have the willingness to back it up with their knowledge, experience, and capabilities.” Tencent, who will become the major shareholder in Techland, is no stranger to acquisitions or video game development. Thus, in the past, the company has worked on Honor of Kings, Call of Duty: Mobile, Level Infinite and a host of mobile and AAA games. This acquisition is no surprise.

Today, the company along with developer Omega Force have announced the Character Pass 2 for One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4. It will include three downloadable content packs with a total of nine playable characters. The game is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.

Furthermore, players can get their hands on the first pack, ‘The Battle of Onigashima Pack’ sometime in September. It includes the Onigashima Battle Luffy and two other characters. Moreover, the Battle Luffy can be used in Gear Five by channeling special techniques. The downloadable content packs five and six will feature three characters each and users who purchase Character Pass 2 will receive the “Onigashima Battle” costume for Trafalgar D. Water Law. Bandai Namco released Gundam Evolution, its free to play first-person shooter, on PC via Steam, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in late 2022. The game allowed players to jump into their mech suits and fight for survival across the battlefield. Unfortunately, the company has announced that the game’s servers will be closed on November 29th, 2023, which comes just one year after its release on consoles.

Via an official press release, the company stated, “We wanted to create a title that brought FPS fans and Gundam fans together. We challenged ourselves to create an authentic Gundam FPS game that could be played globally.
Unfortunately, we have determined that it is no longer possible for us to provide a service that satisfies our players.” Additionally, the developers expressed their gratitude towards the fanbase who played and supported the game.

However, although the servers will be shutting down, the developers will continue to release content for Gundam Evolution, including Season 6 and the final season. Moreover, the company will ensure that players enjoy the game until the very end. Additionally, in Season 6, players can try out two new maps and one new unit while in the final season in October, players will get their hands on one new unit and one new map. Also, after the end of service in November, players will be unable to use any items and EVO coins.

Publisher Indieforge and developer Asylum Square have announced some big news for its indie platformer, Tiny Thor. On August 11th, 2022, the company released Axiom Verge 2, the game’s sequel, on PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch followed by a Steam release on August 11th, 2021. Today, the company has announced that the game is now available on Xbox One. Interested fans can get their hands on the game via the Microsoft Store for $19.99USD.

In the minute-long Xbox One trailer, viewers get a great look at the game including several action sequences, various areas to explore and several reviews where the game was hailed as a great title. Moreover, the game’s predecessor set a standard for indie action-exploration games. Thus, in the sequel, players will be able to explore an expanded universe with new characters, abilities and gameplay.

Additionally, the game is described as, “Indra, the billionaire behind the worldwide Globe 3 conglomerate, heads to Antarctica to investigate the disappearance of her daughter, but ultimately finds herself in entirely different reality, infected by parasitic machines that both aid and confound her. Where is she? Who is the mysterious person goading her from the other end of the computer terminal?” Therefore, players must hack machines, battle monsters and save the world in their journey.

ROCKFISH Games, a video game developer, released Everspace 2, its open world looter-shooter on PC earlier this year. The game was available in early access for quite some time before its official release. It soared to success with 350,000 copies sold on Steam. The team has been working on the game’s release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S and is prepared to release the game on August 15th on the next-gen consoles. It will also be available on the Xbox Game Pass. Interested fans can pre-order the game on the PlayStation Store with a 20% discount for PlayStation Plus members.

Furthermore, on PlayStation 5, players will be able to utilize the Dualsense wireless controller’s haptic feedback, adaptive triggers and built-in speaker features. ROCKFISH Games CEO Michael Schade stated, “Series X and PlayStation 5 players can look forward to exploring the star systems of EVERSPACE 2 supporting 60 frames per second when we launch later this summer.” 

Additionally, the game is described as follows, “EVERSPACE 2 continues the story of Adam Roslin from the first game of the series. EVERSPACE 2 has six sprawling star systems that can be explored by space pilots. Players experience Adam’s emotional journey and personal development from an immortal clone space pilot to an individual character whose death has final consequences in an open-world action RPG.” Therefore, players will be able to explore an expansive world filled with action, fun and a great story to boot.

Blizzard Entertainment’s Diablo franchise sets the trends in the ARPG genre and the recent release of Diablo IV has created a ton of fanfare. At a recent developer livestream, the team behind the game explained several upcoming changes and content to the game. Furthermore, they announced that Diablo IV Season One, Season of the Malignant, will release on July 20th on all platforms. The game is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC.

Moreover, the Season of the Malignant is described as follows, “A new form of Lilith’s corruption has spread throughout Sanctuary, creating Malignant Monsters that roam the land overtaken with this infectious turmoil, minds lost and killing at random. Only you can fight back and harness the power of this twisted corruption to uncover the source of the Malignance and put it to an end.” Additionally, there are several other content coming to the game.

This content includes a new questline, power, boss battle and gear. Players will be able to level up their battle pass which rewards gives several rewards like cosmetics, emotes, mounts, skins and the Coldiron Armor Set. Also, there are other free rewards in the upcoming season including the new journey, blessings, a title and more transmogs for customization. Diablo IV Season One, Season of the Malignant, will continue to pour content into an already thorough and fulfilling game.

Electronic Arts and Ascendant Studios are currently developing their upcoming action, fantasy RPG, Immortals of Aveum. The game is also described as a first-person magic shooter. The game will release on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X/S, EA App and PlayStation 5 on August 22nd. Ahead of the game’s release, the companies have released an Unpacked trailer, which provides a thorough overview of the game’s world, mechanics and spellcasting.

Furthermore, in a statement, Electronic Arts noted, “Delve into Immortals of Aveum’s spellbinding first-person combat, master all three colors of magic to suit how you want to play, discover how to customize your spellcasting with 25 unique Spells, over 80 Talents, and hundreds of pieces of magical gear, and dive deeper into the epic, story-driven campaign.” Additionally, players, as Jak, are thrust into the midst of the Everwar. Jak along with the elite battlemages of the Order of the Immortals must protect Aveum and stop the tyrant, Sandrakk.

Moreover, in the lengthy trailer, viewers get a closer look at several aspects of the game, particularly its fast-paced combat and action. Also, players will be able to solve puzzles using several unique spells. Each spell has its own purpose on both the battlefield and while navigating through the expansive world. Players will also be able to discover several pieces of gear and customize their character to suit. Immortals of Aveum is a different take on the fantasy genre!

Capcom is a major video game company with several titles under its belt. On June 2nd, Street Fighter 6 launched on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. By June 7th, the game had crossed one million in sales. Today, Capcom has announced that the game has now crossed over two million units sold worldwide and that the series has sold more than fifty million units cumulatively.

Via an official press release, Capcom stated, “Capcom Co., Ltd. (Capcom) today announced that Street Fighter 6, the latest title in the storied Street Fighter series, has sold over 2 million units worldwide…Capcom remains firmly committed to satisfying the expectations of all players by leveraging its industry-leading game development capabilities in order to create highly entertaining gameplay experiences.” 

Furthermore, the company intends to continue to leverage its eSports portfolio by kicking off the Street Fighter League: Pro-JP 23 in July. Moreover, in August, players will get the chance to compete in the Capcom Pro Tour 2023 where the champion will be rewarded with one million dollars in prize money. It is clear that the game is of great importance to Capcom and the company is allocation resources to its competitive scene to increase viewership and sales.

In Street Fighter 6, players will jump into a unique fighting-game experience where they can enjoy an immersive story mode and Modern Control Type, where they can execute special attacks with simple button combinations.

NetEase Games released their action battle royale game, Naraka: Bladepoint, on PC in August 2021. Thereafter, the game was made available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S in 2022. Today, the company has announced that the game will officially go free to play and release on PlayStation 5 on July 13th. Interested fans can now wish list the game on the PlayStation Store ahead of its release.

Furthermore, fans that play the game on PlayStation 5 will receive specific benefits. The game’s producer noted, “Everyone on PS5 will receive a Katana skin, a Ryuzan·Frost Reflection, and 2 Immortal Treasures. If you are a PlayStation Plus member, you will also receive more goodies, including 5 more Treasures, a cool exclusive Headwear designed just for PS Plus members, and more.” Moreover, Yongcheng Liu of NetEase Games indicated that the team has optimized the Dualsense Controller to allow for several combos as well as SSD Optimization for higher frame rates and loading speeds.

In July, players will get their hands on games such as Grand Theft Auto V, Exoprimal, Insurgency: Sandstorm and The Cave.

From today, players can get their hands on Grand Theft Auto V and Sword and Fairy: Together Forever. Also, between July 6th to 18th, there will be a host of new games available including Day One releases. These games include The Cave, Techtonica, Exoprimal, Insurgency: Sandstorm, McPixel 3 and Common’hood. Moreover, players will have access to several game updates and DLC content. These include the Barbie Update in Forza Horizon 5, FIFA 23 Women’s World Cup, Hi-Fi Rush Arcade Challenge Update and Sniper Elite 5: Kraken Awakes DLC. Suffice to say, subscribers to the platform get a host of benefits beyond Day One releases.

Two Ultimate Game Pass perks include Sea of Thieves: Obsidian Banjo Pack and the Madden NFL 23: EA Play Ultimate Team Pack. Additionally, players should note that on July 15th, certain games such as Exo One, Paw Patrol The Movie and Spelunky 2 will be leaving the platform. The team noted, “Before we head into the changes taking place for Update 5.1.0, we wish to confirm that your next Seasonal Event will be arriving in July. Heart Machine is a video game developer that creates engaging stories in beautiful worlds. Previously, the developer made critically acclaimed titles such as Hyper Light Drifter and Solar Ash. Currently, the company along with Gearbox Publishing, are working on Hyper Light Breaker. The game is set to release on PC via Steam in early access sometime in the future. The team has released an overview trailer showing off the world ahead of the game’s inevitable release. Unfortunately, there is no date for that release just yet.

In the trailer, viewers get a look at several locations across the vast world. Some of these include The Settlement, Drowned City, Acid Mire, Shattered Fortress and Jeweled Spire. Furthermore, each area that was shown has a unique identity with different creatures, places to explore and diaspora. Moreover, in the trailer, viewers get another look at some of the game’s action as the protagonist defeats enemies and different mobs.

Also, the game is described as follows, “Enter the Overgrowth, a forgotten land in the world of Hyper Light.
